




Cusco Birding Huacarpay
The Huacarpay Lake is a wetland area that attracts a good variety of waterbirds and the scrub around it is home to the endemic Bearded Mountaineer and Rusty-fronted Canastero.
Located at an altitude of 3,020 m., the wetland is made up of four permanent lagoons, a seasonal lagoon, swamps and two rivers. This wetland is mainly characterized by the biodiversity it houses and its great scenic beauty. A number of 150 species were recorded in the wetland area and surroundings. It is possible to identify more than 70 species of birds during one day, most of the year.

We will pick up our passengers from their hotels at 5:30 am, then we will take our private car for birding and depart toward the Huacarpay Lake, in this beautiful wetland area we will observe different species of birds only present in the area.
We will encounter very interesting species such as Rusty-fronted Canastero (E) (Asthenes ottonis), Bearded Mountaineer (E) (Oreonympha nobilis), Many-colored Rush-tyrant (Tachuris rubrigastra), Puna Teal (Spatula puna), Andean Duck (Oxyura ferruginea), Plumbeous Rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus), Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas), among others.
At 8 am, we will have our breakfast, then we will continue birding around the wetlands. At noon we will have our picnic lunch in the area admiring the scenic landscape of the lake and the mountains.
In the afternoon you will continue birding on the road making stops in the route as you return to Cusco city, your guide and driver will transfer you to your hotel in Cusco around 5:30 pm.
