Day 1: Afternoon arrival in Cusco
You will begin this expedition in the city of Cusco, where your guide and driver will be waiting at Velasco Astete International Airport to pick you up. They will transfer you to your hotel in Cusco, where you can rest for the remainder of the day. In the evening, you will have a meeting with your guide to go over the activities outlined in your tour itinerary. Later, you will enjoy dinner at a nice restaurant. The next day, you will depart early (5:00 AM) for Huacarpay Lagoon. This initial activity will help you acclimatize for the upcoming days of your tour, so it’s important to rest early on your first day. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 2: San Salvador & Huacarpay
An early start takes us south of Cuzco to Huacarpay Lake. This famous lake near Cusco is good for wetland birds such as Plumbeous Rail, Puna Teal and Cinnamon Teal, Many-coloured Rush-Tyrant Yellow-billed Pintail and the beautiful endemic Bearded Mountaineer. Later continuing to the small village of San Salvador. Above this village it is possible to see several passerines such as Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Finch, Tufted Tit-Tyrant, Peruvian Sierra-Finch, Chiguanco Thrush and others. Higher up there is a small lagoon good for Giant Coot, Crested Duck, Andean Goose, Andean Gull and Andean Lapwing. We will return to Cuzco in the late afternoon. Overnight in Cusco.
