Central Peru is an excellent area for birdwatching, because of the variety of landscapes, environments, and altitudes.
This tour is perfect for birders because grants excellent opportunities to see many endemic bird species in small, restricted areas and to witness Peru’s stunning and versatile landscapes: desert, high Andes mountains, dry valleys, Puna, Polylepis forests, lagoons and lakes, Elfin and Cloud Forest, and the vast Amazon. Truly a dream tour thanks to Peru’s many beautiful routes and diverse birds.
We will travel across from west to east, starting in the Lima region with many endemic species and other species adapted to the dry Andean valleys, such the Great Inca Finch, Black-necked Woodpecker, and the Thick-billed Miner. We will wind our way up the high Andes mountains, where we can see more endemics in the Puna area and the Polylepis forests, like the Striated Earthcreeper, White-checked Cotinga, Dark-winged Miner, Junin Grebe, Junin Rail, Junin Canastero, among other rare species, like the beautiful Diademed Sandpiper-Plover and the White-bellied Cinclodes.
After crossing the mighty mountains, we will start our descend and spend a big part of the tour in the Cloud Forest to look for some very restricted and endemic species, many of them only recently described in science, like the Jalca Tapaculo, Rufous-browed Hemispingus, and the Oxapampa Antpitta. Some of these species we will find in very isolated and beautiful places like Bosque Unchog, Satipo Road, and Bosque Sholet.

Day 1: Arrival at the international airport in Lima, Villa Marshes.
The trip begins in the morning in Lima, we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel, in the afternoon we will take you to the Villa Marshes for watching lima bird specialties, Night in Lima.
Day 2: Transfer by private vehicle to the Santa Eulalia area to spend fullday birding in the dry Andean valleys

Birding around the lower part of the cloud forest of the Satipo road for new species of the area / Night in Satipo.

Day 8: Birding Villa Rica Full Day
Transfer to Villa Rica and a full day of birding around the Villa Rica Lake / night at the Puerto Escondido Lodge.
Day 9: Birding Bosque Sholet
A full day of birding around Bosque Sholet, with Elfin and Cloud Forest vegetation, close to the city Villa Rica / Night at the Puerto Escondido Lodge.
Day 10: Birding drive to La Oroya
Birding around Villa Rica and transfer to La Oroya / Night in the El Dorado Hotel.
Day 11: Birding drive to Junin Lake
Birding around the Junin Lake (± 4000 m), a very nice place for some endemic species, like the endangered Junin Grebe / Night in Grand Hotel Huánuco.
Day 12-13: Birding Bosque Unchog
Two full days in the mystical Bosque Unchog. This place is one of the most important hotspots of this route and the best place to find some fantastic endemic birds, like the Pardusco, Bay-vented Cotinga, and the Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager / Night in Grand Hotel Huánuco.
Day 14: Birding morning around Tunel Carpish and the Paty Trail
Birding morning around Tunel Carpish and the Paty Trail, and birding stops on our way to the city Tingo María, known as “the door to the Amazon” / Night in Tingo María.
Day 15: Birding drive back to Huanuco
Birding in our way back to Huánuco with a stop in the Tingo María National Park to visit the spectacular Oilbirds cave (Cueva de las Lechuzas) / Grand Hotel Huánuco.
Day 16: Flight to Lima, Birding in Chilca
Flight to Lima in the morning and a visit to Chilca in the afternoon to look for shorebirds and sea birds / Night in Lima.
Day 17: Flight from Lima and connections
Today we will transfer you to the airport in Lima for a flight back to home.
